DAN & ROSEMARY KONZ'S

AMERICAN DREAM STORY

IMG_9769.JPG

Dan Konz was born and raised in Flushing Long Island. Dan loved the water and started swimming at age 4. He was a Physical Director of the Flushing YMCA. Dan became a professional lifeguard and worked at Jones Beach in Long Island from 1958 to 1964. He saved over 500 people from drowning during this time. This is where he also met and married his first wife and had 3 children. He became a Training supervisor for Friendly’s Ice Cream Restaurant and was promoted to District Manager. In 1968, Dan moved to

Tucson, Arizona where he had relatives. He worked in the freight industry there for about 15 years there. He moved to Chicago afterward, where he became an Entrepreneur and owned several restaurants. Dan invented a product called "Champion Chip" which was an ice cream cookie sandwich. Dan built the business and opened up accounts with major fast-food chains and the Southland Corporation, owners of the 7-11 retail stores. The sales exploded and he ultimately sold it to the Southland Corporation. Dan continued to use his creative genius to invent another product - Shine Plus - which was an innovative product to shine shoes quickly and efficiently. He built that brand very quickly as well and sold it to a large manufacturing company. So it is safe to say that Dan was born to be an Entrepreneur!

Rosemary Konz was born and raised in Cicero, IL.  Adopted as a baby and blessed to be with a loving family. She has one sibling. Her father retired as a Lieutenant with the Town of Cicero Police Department and her Mother was a Town of Cicero Trustee. Her first job was at St. Frances of Rome Rectory helping out with office duties. Rosemary attended grammar school at St. Frances of Rome and graduated 1983 from Nazareth Academy

in LaGrange Park. She received an Associate in Arts Degree from Morton College in Cicero and attended the University of Illinois at Chicago. Rosemary worked at Jewel Food Stores for 6 years. Starting out bagging groceries, she quickly moved up to being a cashier and promoted to Customer Service Desk. This is where she also met and married her first husband. She also worked several office jobs including Metlife, American Nuclear Society, and L&H Company. After being downsized from a corporate position, Rosemary went to Aurora Career Center and earned a Barber’s license. She worked at Hairline Creations in Arlington Heights for several years before meeting Dan at the Sanctuary Hair Salon in Hinsdale.
